Jawhar Sircar

Jawhar Sircar, educated at the Universities of Calcutta, Cambridge and Sussex, has been India’s longest-serving Secretary for Culture in his career as a bureaucrat spanning 42 years. In February 2012, he was appointed CEO, Prasar Bharati to head the world's largest and perhaps the most problematic public broadcaster that supervises nearly 500 stations of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He was elected as the Vice President of the 70-nation Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union and has served on the boards of professional media bodies including the Public Service Broadcasting Trust. He is currently Chairman of India's premier Centre for Studies in Social Sciences.
