Mujib Mashal

Mujib Mashal is The New York Times’s bureau chief for South Asia. In his role based out of New Delhi, he covers the Indian subcontinent. Before joining The Times, he wrote for magazines including The Atlantic,Harper’s and Time. He began his journalism career as an intern with The Times’s bureau in Kabul, Afghanistan, before moving on to work for Al Jazeera English in Doha and then pursued magazine writing. He returned to The Times as a senior correspondent in October 2016. Born in Kabul, he received a degree in history from Columbia University.
